Let’s try and get together on Thursday and Friday this week for our 1st Machine Quilting Class. I know that quite a few of you are chomping at the bit to get going on the quilting part now that your tops are finished. However, we won’t be working on the tops for a while because there needs to be quite a bit of practice before you’re ready to work on the top.

These will be our last classes of the year. We will be going to ABQ to pick up my MIL and bring her up to live with us for a while and I know the holidays will be upon us. So you can practice and we will get together again in January.

Please drop me an email and RSVP so I know how many tables I will need to set up for. I will be providing the batting and will have that precut for those in attendance. THANKS!

Class Times:
Thursday, December 4th; 7:00 PM; My House
Friday, December 5th; 9:00 AM; My House Notice! The time is early on Friday. Hudson has a Preschool Fieldtrip at Noon, so I need to be done earlier than before.

Please Bring:
Your Sewing Machine; Don’t forget foot pedal or electrical cord
Basic Sewing Kit; scissors, thread, bobbins, needles, etc. . .
Walking Foot (See http://basicallyquilting.blogspot.com/2008/11/walking-foot.html)
Quilting Foot/Embroidery/Darning foot (I will be posting a pic to basically quilting ASAP)
Safety Pins approx 1” – 1 ¼” long
Scrap fabric or muslin. Something plain will be easier to see your quilting on. At the very least you’ll need a yard of fabric for front and backing practice pieces.

Almost There!

We are making great progress and our goal is to get everyone's quilt top together before Thanksgiving! Then we'll have a lesson or two about machine quilting and everyone can practice during the Holidays, and we'll pick up on getting the tops quilted in January. That's the plan for now, any problems with that leave a comment or email me.

Meeting again:
Thursday Evening, November 13th; 7:00 PM @ Lauri's
Friday Morning, November 13th; 10 AM @ Lauri's

We'll decide if we need to meet the following week.

This week I remembered to take pictures, of People that is. We have been using the digital camera to determine if we the layout before we start sewing them. Check out a few.

More Progress!

We have been making progress on our quilts. One group met Thursday night and one group on Friday morning. We're kind of getting mixed back and forth on our groups and everyone is progressing at different levels. So it's KINDA Crazy! But I think we're having fun. We keep taking pictures of everyone's quilt strips, but I forget to take pictures of the quilters having FUN!!! Sorry! I'll try to do better.

Next Class:

Thursday: Nov. 6th; 7 PM; Lauri's house

Friday: Nov 7th; 10 AM; Lauri's house

Questions? Leave comments or email me and I'll do my best. Also, I've started a blog about the basics and tips on quilting. So check it out! http://basicallyquiltng.blogspot.com

Another Class Down!

Well, we had lots of fun on Thursday (23rd). We missed those who had to be to Stake Leadership, but those who came learned to use a rotary cutter and we cut strips and decided on layouts. We meet again this Thursday (30th). Bring what you've completed and we'll go from there. You don't need to bring your rotary mat (I have enough!).

Bring your:
Rotary Cutter and rulers
Sewing Machine and
Basic Sewing Kit

We used a digital camera to decide which way they wanted to place their strips! So Much FUN!!

Updates

So Here is how it goes.

The Friday Class is going to be Friday; October 31st (yep it's Halloween) 10 - 12 AM Lauri's House.

Thursday Class is the 23rd. See you all there. 7:00 PM

I know there are several of you that missed the 1st class but want to come and getting together to catch you up is going to be a pain for everyone. So pretty much, you all come on Friday morning. So I'm gonna do some explaining on the blog and email you the fabric requirements. Then you can bring the fabric and we'll get stuff cut and possibly stay after everyone else and catch you up on things. K? Email me if you didn't understand. Also, Watch the blog for some ideas for picking out fabric and what you'll need to bring.

Happy Quilting!

Another Successful Group!

We had our Friday Morning Group meet on Friday the 10th and had a good showing and had fun talking quilting! Ok well, I had fun talking Quilting and I think everyone else did too. There were lots of questions and hopefully enough answers.

Session 2 will be on

Thursday, October 23rd; 7:00 pm &

Friday, October 24th; 10:00 am

If you are still interested in attending, but haven't been able to get to the 1st Session, please email me or leave a comment and we'll get together and get you caught up.

For Session 2 Please Bring:

All the Yummy Fabric you found to make your quilt with! I can't wait to see what everyone brings.

Rotary Cutter
Self-healing cutting mat
Rotary cutting ruler; needs to be at least 12 x 6
Scraps to practice cutting strips

ALSO. . .

Bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies.

If you are REALLY nervous about using that razor sharp rotary cutter, you can buy a Klutz glove. These were developed by Fons & Porter. Sometimes you can find them in the store, or search online for one. These are worn on the hand that holds the ruler, so if you accidentally slip it will protect that poor ruler hand that bares the brunt of those kind of mistakes!!

We will cut strips, and sew and press them together. You will have homework!! Yippee! feels like you're back in school.

Janette and Amy stayed for awhile after everyone left and kept sewing. It was FUN! Can't wait to get sewing next week!

Too Confusing?

I read over the last post and I was confused. So Let's try this.

Starter Class
Friday, October 10th, 10 AM; Lauri's House

2nd Class for Thursdays
Thursday, October 23rd; 7 PM; Lauri's House
If you missed the starter class and can't attend the Friday class, contact me and we'll do a make up before the 23rd.

Clear as Mud.

Also, we are making the brown/pink/green quilt (in fabric of your choosing) NOT the pillow pictured previously. I have it figured in 2 sizes; a baby quilt (37 x 37) or a throw (63 x 63). We are going to complete this quilt, when we are done the quilt will be tied/quilted and bound! Ready to use.

We DID It!

We had our first Thursday evening meeting. 7 ladies showed up! YEAH! I think they had a good time. One sister in particular is afraid of the 1/4" seams, but I assured her no worries! We're learning the rules of quilting and later we'll learn how to break the rules!

I had the camera sitting right there and I forgot to take pictures when everyone was here! What a loser I am.

So here's a picture of our project. Well, at least my version. Everyone has the assignment to go get fabric of their choice. I can't wait to see what they'll come back to our next meeting with.

We're going to start a Friday morning class for those who can't attend on Thursday evenings. Which BTW our next Thursday class will be October 23rd; 7:00pm; My house. I can't do next Friday, but let's shoot for Friday morning October 10th @ 10:00. We have a "partay" room next to the sewing room, so if you have small children and they can occupy themselves with toys and a movie and allow us to sew, you are welcome to bring them. This will be the starter class, so bring the items listed in the last post and we'll get to know some basics.
My mess, I still need clean up!!

What's Up?

Well, I guess I'm in charge of this quilting thing, and it's surely slow getting off the ground, but I'm going to try really hard to get this thing flying. Let's get started by saying this will be a sewing/quilting group. So anything goes. I'm open to suggestions for projects or probelm solving, or anything to do with sewing.

Our first project will be pillows. I will not be in town on the 14th, but I will send the pillows as samples, if it's not enough seeing the picture on the blog.
Morgan made these pillows for Candis with the scraps from Candis' quilt so this is EASY. You can bring your own fabric, OR I can make up some kits for those who don't want to have to think too much about picking fabric.

When we decide on a date to get this project started, I will post the supplies needed. ALSO, you are invited to bring your mutual age daughters with you and we can make this group a mother/daughter opportunity.
